Her project: The Structural Study of the nuclear export complex of mRNA
Hello, my name is Arije SAFA, and I began my PhD on September 16, 2024, in the EPIGEN group at the Institute of Structural Biology (IBS). My research focuses on the structural study of the nuclear export complex of mRNA, a vital process for gene expression that facilitates the transport of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. I will use cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to analyze this complex at high resolution, aiming to reveal its structural details and how its components interact to enable efficient mRNA export. In addition to cryo-EM, I will employ several biochemical techniques to explore these interactions, including gel filtration, ITC, mass photometry and pull-down assays to confirm specific protein-protein interactions. I am excited to combine these methods to provide insights into the composition and dynamics of the mRNA nuclear export complex, contributing to our understanding of its critical role in cellular function.
