His project: Structural insight into bacterial chromatin assembly by cryo-electron
Hi, I’m Lorenzo Gaifas! I’m a first year PhD student at the University of Grenoble, working at Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS) in Irina Gutsche’s lab. I come from the north of Italy, where I did my bachelor’s degree in biotechnology. After that, I moved to Groningen – in the Netherlands – to get my master’s degree in molecular biology; here, I found my interest and built my expertise in computational structural biology and molecular dynamics.
Now, in Grenoble, I work on computational method development for Cryo-electron Tomography and their application to supramolecular assemblies such as chromatine and membrane-bound protein arrays.
On weekends I often go for a hike on the beautiful mountains around Grenoble, play some board games or – lately – work toward finishing reading The Wheel of Time.
